MLB Betting Preview & Predictions: Blue Jays vs Red Sox

Moneyline: Boston -134 | Total: 8.5

The Boston Red Sox head into Monday’s series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays riding a hot streak and looking to extend their five-game winning run. Boston is the moneyline favorite at -134 with the total set at 8.5, and recent momentum suggests they’re in a strong spot to cover.

Red Sox Outlook & Prediction

Boston’s bats are heating up at the perfect time. After sweeping the Cardinals in a Sunday doubleheader — including an 18-run explosion in the nightcap — the Sox are averaging over 10 runs across their last five games. Rafael Devers, who broke out of a season-opening slump with a five-game hit streak and his first home run of the year, is finally looking like the offensive force fans expect.

Wilyer Abreu is also catching fire, batting .483 (14-for-29) with 12 RBIs during this stretch, including a walk-off RBI earlier Sunday. If he keeps swinging it like this, Boston’s lineup will continue to pile up runs.

Right-hander Richard Fitts (0-1, 4.50 ERA) will get the ball for the Red Sox. He looked solid through five scoreless innings in his season debut before giving up a couple of long balls in the sixth. He earned his spot in the rotation and will now face a Blue Jays lineup that’s been anything but intimidating.

With Boston’s offense red-hot and their bullpen well-rested after a solid debut from Hunter Dobbins, the Sox are in a great position to win and cover the short number.

Blue Jays Breakdown

Toronto’s offense is sputtering badly. The Jays have dropped three straight, scoring two runs or fewer in each contest. Their lineup managed just four hits against the Mets on Sunday, and they’ve yet to find their power stroke — with only five homers on the season and just three from Andres Gimenez.

Toronto turns to Easton Lucas (1-0, 0.00 ERA), who looked sharp in his MLB starting debut last week with five shutout innings. Still, it’ll be a test to see if the lefty can hold down a surging Boston order in Fenway. He gave up two runs in a brief relief outing vs. the Red Sox last season, and this version of Boston is swinging with much more confidence.

The Jays simply don’t look capable of matching Boston’s scoring right now. Until their bats wake up, backing them on the road against a team on a tear is a tough sell.

Betting Angle & Final Thoughts

With Boston clicking offensively and Fitts showing enough promise to hold down a cold Toronto lineup, the play here is on the Red Sox ML and the Under 8.5, especially if Lucas can contain Boston early.
