Capitals vs. Canadiens Game 4 Betting Preview, Prediction & Breakdown

Moneyline: Washington -115 | Total: 6.0

Washington Capitals Outlook

The Capitals hit the ice Sunday night looking to bounce back after a tough Game 3 loss, where a third-period collapse cost them a chance to seize full control of the series. Even as slight favorites at -115, Washington faces serious goaltending uncertainty. Starter Logan Thompson left late in Game 3 with a lower-body injury, and if he’s unable to go, Charlie Lindgren will be thrust into the spotlight.

Lindgren had a solid regular season, but this would be his first start of the series—and it would come against his former team, adding some emotional weight. Washington will lean heavily on veterans like Alexander Ovechkin, who continues to produce with three goals so far. Getting forward Aliaksei Protas back would be a huge boost, adding more scoring punch to a lineup that will need to control the tempo early.

Washington’s response after being physically outplayed in Game 3 will be key. If they tighten up defensively and execute better on special teams, they have the firepower to reclaim momentum.

Montreal Canadiens Outlook

Montreal showed real grit in Game 3, erupting for three unanswered third-period goals to claim a much-needed 6-3 win. Now, they’ll look to even the series on home ice, riding the energy from what’s been an electric Bell Centre crowd.

The goaltending situation is a question mark after Sam Montembeault left with an injury. However, rookie backup Jakub Dobes stepped in admirably, stopping seven of eight shots and securing the win in his playoff debut. Whether Montembeault or Dobes gets the nod, Montreal’s offense will need to keep the pressure high.

Cole Caufield and Alex Newhook led the way with a goal and an assist each, and Christian Dvorak’s fluky go-ahead goal in the third proved crucial. Montreal’s physical style rattled Washington in Game 3, and if they can replicate that effort and stay out of the penalty box, they’ll be live underdogs once again.

Prediction

With both teams facing goaltending questions and emotions running high, Game 4 feels like a true coin flip. That said, Washington’s experience and urgency should give them the edge to bounce back and retake control.

Pick: Capitals ML (-115)
Prediction: Washington 4, Montreal 3
Lean: Over 6.0 (-112) – Given the recent scoring outburst and shaky goalie situations, expect another wide-open, high-scoring battle.
