Game Preview
DiJonai Carrington’s performance on Tuesday night was impressive both on and off the court. After leading the Connecticut Sun to a 69-61 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks with a game-high 19 points, she voiced her frustration with the WNBA for not sufficiently promoting its first game in Boston.
"I feel like Connecticut as a franchise is historically disrespected," Carrington stated. "The game should have been broadcast nationally. It shouldn’t require a subscription to view a game that holds such significance."
The Sun will have another chance to shine when they host the Chicago Sky on Friday night in Uncasville, Conn., with the game set to air on ION.
Connecticut (20-7) achieved its latest victory by leaning on its defense, which sparked a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter to overcome a four-point deficit. Remarkably, they managed this win without much contribution from leading scorer DeWanna Bonner, who only scored seven points on 2-of-11 shooting.
On the other hand, Chicago (11-16) hasn’t played since suffering an 86-68 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday. The Sky struggled from the outset, falling behind 32-19 after the first quarter and facing their second blowout defeat against the Mercury in just four days.
Angel Reese stood out in that loss, recording 19 points and 20 rebounds for her 20th double-double of the season. She is currently averaging 13.6 points and 12.3 rebounds per game.
"I’m just focused on improving in the moment," Reese said. "My priority is right now."
The Sky are in a tight race for the final playoff spot, leading Atlanta by just one game, and face a challenging schedule ahead with two games each against Minnesota and Las Vegas, as well as another matchup against Connecticut to close the season.
The Sun have defeated the Sky in both of their previous encounters this season by a combined total of 12 points.
