Game Preview

The Las Vegas Aces are pushing towards securing a playoff position as they prepare to face the struggling Dallas Wings in a critical Western Conference match on Tuesday in Dallas.

Sporting an 18-11 record, the Aces are currently fifth in the WNBA standings but have faced some challenges with a 2-3 record post-Olympic break. Their recent performances include consecutive losses to the top-ranked Minnesota Lynx, each by substantial margins.

However, Las Vegas regained some ground with a narrow 77-75 victory over the Chicago Sky, thanks to A’ja Wilson’s impressive 20 points and 18 rebounds, capped by a buzzer-beating game-winner. Wilson openly criticized the officiating post-game, expressing frustration over perceived unfair treatment.

"Everyone needs to fulfill their roles effectively, from us players to the referees and the coaches. It’s unsettling to feel intimidated or silenced on the court," Wilson stated. "If I’m fined for speaking out, it’s unfortunate, but the officiating has been a season-long issue, and it needs addressing."

Looking ahead, the Aces are set to face the Wings (7-22), who keep up a fast game pace nearly on par with Vegas, ranking third in the league. A’ja Wilson and her team aim for a more decisive victory this time around.

Dallas’s standout player, Arike Ogunbowale, leads her team with an average of 22.3 points per game. Post-Olympics, she’s maintained her strong performance, including a standout 33-point game in a recent 113-110 comeback win against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Reflecting on the victory, Ogunbowale said, "This win was crucial as we were nearly matched with the Sparks in the standings, and losing to them previously at home was disappointing. Despite a rough start, we proved that a strong finish can turn any game around, showing our resilience."

Ogunbowale’s encounters with the Aces this season have been inconsistent, with a high of 31 points in a 95-81 loss on June 5, and a low of 13 points in a 104-85 defeat on July 7.
