Game Preview

After a two-day break following back-to-back overtime wins, the Denver Nuggets shift their focus to a clash with Western Conference contender, the Minnesota Timberwolves, in Minneapolis on Friday night.

Denver recently secured thrilling road victories, edging the Toronto Raptors 127-125 and the Brooklyn Nets 144-139 in consecutive OT games. "I’m proud of our guys for sticking together and finding a way to win in overtime," said Nuggets coach Michael Malone, adding that he hopes their season doesn’t continue with such intense finishes.

Friday’s matchup marks the first meeting between the two since last season’s Western Conference semifinals, which the Timberwolves claimed in a seven-game series. Both teams have since retooled; Minnesota traded Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks, acquiring Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, while Denver brought in Russell Westbrook to replace Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, seeking veteran leadership.

Star center Nikola Jokic has been dominant for the Nuggets, posting an early-season triple-double average with 31.5 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 9.3 assists over four games. "What more can you say about Nikola Jokic?" praised Malone, emphasizing Jokic’s impact, especially in their recent win over Brooklyn.

The Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards leads Minnesota, averaging 30 points and shooting 41.5% from deep, up from last season’s 35.7%. With Randle contributing 23.3 points and 7.5 rebounds, and Rudy Gobert nearly averaging a double-double, the Timberwolves aim to snap back after a narrow 120-114 loss to the Mavericks.

Edwards highlighted the importance of tightening up defense and transition play as keys to their success, particularly against Denver’s high-powered offense. "If we can get back in transition, rebound, and if I rebound, we’ll be good," said Edwards, setting the tone for Friday’s high-stakes rematch.
