Game Preview
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson returns to Philadelphia on Sunday, facing a high-flying Eagles team just shy of the NFC East lead. The Eagles (5-2) are riding a three-game win streak and were close to overtaking Washington before a last-second miracle touchdown kept the Commanders in first place at 6-2.
Philadelphia’s offense, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, has been surging. Hurts accounted for four touchdowns (three rushing) in their 37-17 win over the Bengals, making it three straight games without a turnover. Running back Saquon Barkley, who leads the Eagles ground game, now ranks second in the NFL with 766 rushing yards, helping Philadelphia secure the second-highest rushing yardage per game (165.9) and fourth in rushing touchdowns.
“We’re built to be physical,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni emphasized. “That’s the style we’ll bring every week.”
This puts pressure on Jacksonville’s defense, which ranks near the bottom in points allowed and total yardage. Pederson’s first return to Philadelphia in 2022 saw his team fall 29-21, with the Eagles defense forcing five turnovers from Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence and the Jaguars offense may face further challenges with receiver Christian Kirk (collarbone) out for the season and rookie Brian Thomas Jr. (chest) questionable. Top rushers Tank Bigsby and Travis Etienne Jr. also enter as game-time decisions, adding to the team’s offensive hurdles.
For the Eagles, tight end Dallas Goedert and cornerback Darius Slay will sit out with injuries. Philadelphia holds a four-game win streak over Jacksonville, adding motivation to keep the momentum going in front of their home crowd at Lincoln Financial Field.
