Game Preview

The New Orleans Pelicans snapped the Denver Nuggets’ five-game win streak on Friday and now aim to halt the Los Angeles Lakers’ four-game surge as they clash Saturday night in New Orleans. Both teams are on the second night of back-to-back games.

The Pelicans, battling through injuries and a six-game losing skid, managed a 101-94 victory over Denver, who played without Nikola Jokic (personal reasons). Head coach Willie Green praised the team’s resilience during tough times.

"Our guys gave everything they had," Green said. "It’s a testament to their character and effort, even as we work to get healthy."

Brandon Ingram led the Pelicans with 29 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. The former Laker has been pivotal for New Orleans, despite facing intense defensive pressure. Supporting Ingram, Brandon Boston Jr. added 19 points, while Trey Murphy III chipped in 17. Rookie Yves Missi dominated the boards with 12 rebounds, helping the Pelicans out-rebound Denver 56-38.

The Lakers, meanwhile, edged the San Antonio Spurs 120-115 on Friday, powered by LeBron James’ fourth consecutive triple-double (15 points, 16 rebounds, 12 assists) and Anthony Davis’ season-high 40 points with 12 rebounds. The Lakers showed depth with four additional players scoring in double figures, including Austin Reaves (19 points) and rookie Dalton Knecht (14 points).

James highlighted the team’s balanced execution late in games. "We’re showing we can rely on everyone to step up," he said.

Davis, averaging a career-high 31.1 points per game, emphasized the importance of translating their home dominance to the road. "We need to compete on the road like we do at home," Davis said. "Tonight was a step in the right direction."

As New Orleans seeks to capitalize on their momentum and Los Angeles fights to maintain consistency on the road, Saturday’s showdown promises plenty of intrigue.
