(17) Texas Tech vs (16) Utah Preview & Prediction
Spread: Utah -3.5
Moneyline: Utah (-170)
Total: 57.5
Utah Utes Betting Outlook
The Utah Utes enter Saturday as 3.5-point favorites with the total set at 57.5. Ranked No. 16, Utah has looked like a completely different offensive unit this season. After struggling in nearly every Big 12 offensive category last year, they now sit near the top of the conference in scoring (45.7 ppg), rushing (290.0 ypg), and total offense (517.0 ypg).
A big reason for the surge is new offensive coordinator Jason Beck, who has balanced the workload across multiple playmakers while letting his athletes stick to their strengths. Quarterback Devon Dampier, a transfer from New Mexico, has been especially efficient. He’s completing 73% of his passes with eight total touchdowns and no turnovers through three games. His dual-threat ability has given defenses fits and will force Texas Tech into staying disciplined up front.
If Utah continues to dominate on the ground and limit mistakes, the edge at home makes them a strong favorite to cover.
Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Outlook
Don’t overlook the Red Raiders, though. At No. 17 and undefeated, Texas Tech brings the nation’s most explosive offense into Salt Lake City. The Red Raiders lead the FBS in scoring at 58.0 points per game and sit second nationally in total offense, averaging a staggering 602.7 yards per contest.
Quarterback Behren Morton has been lights out, already piling up 923 yards and 11 touchdowns while completing over 70% of his passes. He shredded Oregon State for 464 yards in their latest win, showing he’s capable of putting games away by himself. With nearly 200 rushing yards per game to balance things out, Tech doesn’t have many weak points offensively.
The key will be whether their defense can hold Utah’s run game in check long enough to give Morton room to dictate the pace.
Prediction & Betting Angle
This one has shootout written all over it. Both squads are averaging over 500 yards per game and feature quarterbacks in peak form. Utah’s defense may be slightly more battle-tested, but Texas Tech’s firepower makes them dangerous. Expect a high-scoring back-and-forth game with Utah pulling it out late thanks to home-field advantage.
Final Score: Utah 34, Texas Tech 31
