St. John’s Red Storm Betting Breakdown
St. John’s enters this consolation matchup looking like a team that finally figured out its offensive identity, and that identity is simple: let Oziyah Sellers fire until the rim begs for mercy.
Rick Pitino has basically turned into a walking megaphone telling Sellers to shoot the ball from anywhere in the building. Sellers, being a responsible young man, listens to authority. The result is pure chaos for opponents. Over his two tournament games, he dropped back to back five-triple performances and is averaging 21 points while shooting like he has sniper mode turned on.
Sellers is not alone in the fun. Bryce Hopkins looked unstoppable against Baylor, piling up 26 points on 9 for 12 from the floor and a perfect 3 for 3 from deep. Pitino practically started glowing when both guys let it fly without hesitation.
The Red Storm also showed they can regroup quickly. After a heartbreaking one-point loss to Iowa State, they bounced back with a strong 96 to 81 win over Baylor, playing with confidence and actually looking like the cohesive unit Pitino hopes they can eventually be. Mistakes still show up, but the talent is real and the offensive rhythm is improving fast.
Gambling Outlook:
St. John’s has the shooting advantage, deeper scoring options, and is playing with real swagger. Their pace is high, their perimeter shooting is locked in, and their confidence is rising. They match up well here and have the firepower to cover.
Auburn Tigers Betting Breakdown
Auburn walked into Michigan’s buzz saw and left looking like they had been kicked down the Vegas Strip. A 102 to 72 loss is not the kind of memory you want in your scrapbook.
The Tigers shot under 36 percent from the field, were demolished on the glass, and gave up an outrageous 29 to 3 fast break margin. Michigan basically ran layup lines while Auburn wondered why the floor felt tilted.
But Auburn is not collapsing. They beat Oregon the night before and still have plenty of talent. Tahaad Pettiford has been a bright spot, hitting four triples and scoring 16 points against Michigan while averaging 20 points in Las Vegas. He is starting to look like the breakout scorer Pearl expected.
Keyshawn Hall had his worst scoring night of the season against Michigan but had been cooking teams before that. Auburn’s issue is not talent, it is consistency and defense. Their transition defense has been rough, and they struggle against teams that space the floor.
Steven Pearl is preaching “don’t get too high or too low,” but Auburn needs more than a pep talk. They need to defend the perimeter, win on the glass, and avoid letting St. John’s turn this into a track meet.
Gambling Outlook:
Auburn’s offense can score, but their defensive issues and fatigue from Michigan’s blowout loss are concerns. They can keep this competitive if they shoot the ball well, but the matchup favors St. John’s tempo and perimeter shooting.
Prediction & Betting Angle
St. John’s has the hotter shooters, the more reliable scoring options, and the better momentum. Auburn is dangerous but inconsistent and coming off a mental and physical beating.
