Jalen Williams barely had enough time to check into Game 2 before his hamstring reminded everybody it still exists. Now the Thunder head to San Antonio wondering whether one of their biggest offensive weapons will even suit up Friday night.
Fortunately for Oklahoma City, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues playing like a man personally offended by double teams. The superstar guard remains the engine behind everything the Thunder do offensively, and even with constant defensive pressure, he keeps finding ways to control tempo and attack late in games.
The real surprise lately has been Alex Caruso suddenly transforming into prime playoff Michael Jordan. Caruso already has 48 points in the first two games after scoring only 61 total in Oklahoma City’s first eight playoff contests. Nobody saw this coming, including probably Alex Caruso himself.
Ajay Mitchell also avoided disaster after going down late in Game 2. Thunder fans collectively stopped breathing for about 15 seconds before learning he should be available Friday.
The Thunder proved throughout the season they can survive missing key players. They went 39-10 without Williams during the regular season and won every playoff game he missed. That kind of resilience matters massively in playoff betting because Oklahoma City rarely panics under pressure.

Stephon Castle has also become one of the biggest X-factors in this series. The young guard averaged 21 points and 9.5 assists over the first two games, though his 10 turnovers have occasionally turned San Antonio possessions into fast-break opportunities for Oklahoma City.
Still, Castle’s aggressiveness continues creating scoring chances, especially with Fox and Harper dealing with injuries. Coach Mitch Johnson clearly trusts him to handle major playoff responsibilities despite the occasional chaotic possession.
San Antonio’s home crowd should provide a huge emotional boost Friday night. The Spurs have already proven they can overwhelm Oklahoma City physically when Wembanyama controls the paint and limits transition opportunities.
If the Spurs protect the basketball better, they have a real opportunity to reclaim control of this series.
