Chase Young Bolsters 49ers Defense

After a three-game skid, the 49ers decided to add to their already strong defense that ranks ninth in yards allowed per game by trading for Washington’s DE Chase Young in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick. The 49ers were already among the favorites in the odds to win the Super Bowl and are currently prcied at +475 at DraftKings.

Young is a former second overall pick in 2020 and has 90 total tackles and 14 sacks in his career. He has 15 tackles and five sacks this season.

It was the second big-name defender that the Commanders shipped out on NFL Trade Deadline Day.

Bears Add Montez Sweat to D-Line

Chicago gave up a second round pick for DE Montez Sweat from Washington earlier in the afternoon. Clearly the Bears were hoping to improve a defense that is 23rd in yards allowed per game.

Sweat was a 2019 first round pick of Washington and has 197 tackles, 35.5 sacks and 1 interception in his career. 32 of those tackles and 6.5 of those sacks came this season.

It was a questionable trade when you consider Sweat is a free agent at the end of the season and will likely leave. And the Bears, at 2-6 have already seen this season pass them by.

The Commanders were already underdogs in Week 9 versus New England and are currently 3.5-point underdogs in the NFL betting odds on Sunday.

Cardinals Send Dobbs to Vikings

With Kirk Cousins done for the year with a torn Achilles and Nick Mullens still on IR with a back injury, the Vikings were looking for help at the QB position and they found it in Cardinals backup QB Josh Dobbs. Minnesota sent 6th and 7th round picks in 2024 to Arizona in the trade.

Dobbs had been starting for the Cards this season with Kyler Murray recovering from a torn ACL, but with Murray returning to practice recently, Dobbs was deemed expendable.

Dobbs was 167/266 with 1,569 yards to go with 8 TDs and 5 INTs in eight games this season.
