Royals: Protect This Kauffman Kingdom (Kinda)

The Kansas City Royals are hanging around .500 like your buddy who always “might show up” but never confirms. They’re 34-35 overall and rocking a respectable 19-16 record at home. Not great, not awful, just Kansas City things.

Michael Wacha takes the mound with a solid 3.01 ERA and an underrated ability to make opposing lineups question their life choices. While KC has a losing record when giving up dingers (12-28 when someone goes yard), they’ve got Bobby Witt Jr. leading the charge like a caffeinated shortstop superhero. And don’t forget Vinnie Pasquantino, the man’s been hotter than a barbecue grill in July, going 17-for-40 in his last 10.

Only downside? The Royals have lost 7 of their last 10. But hey, at least they’ve been doing it with style and a .279 team batting average. There are worse ways to go down.

Athletics: Chaos, Calamity and the Occasional Win

Oakland is 26-44, which is roughly the baseball equivalent of stepping on a rake over and over. But don’t tell Brent Rooker that, the man just slapped four hits like he was back in Double-A facing teenagers.

Luis Severino (1-6, 4.77 ERA) will toe the rubber for the A’s, still searching for the days when he was striking out Yankees like a beast. Right now? He’s mostly giving out runs like Costco samples.

The Athletics are 14-21 on the road, and have somehow managed to go 23-8 when they outhit opponents, the problem being they rarely do. With a 5.20 team ERA in their last 10 games, they’ve mostly been serving up meatballs and hoping for mercy.

Prediction:

Both teams are in “figure it out” mode, but Kansas City gets the edge at home. Wacha keeps it tight, the bats show up just enough, and Athletics, well… remains Athletics.

Expect fireworks. possibly on the field, maybe in the bullpen. Either way, the Royals should pull this one out and edge a step closer to .500 respectability.

Final Score Prediction: Royals 6, Athletics 3
Bets Bet: Kansas City RL -1.5 (+135)
Total:  Over 8.0 (-110)
