Game Preview

New York Rangers winger Artemi Panarin looks to extend his four-game multi-point streak on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Panarin shined in Thursday’s 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings, recording three goals and an assist, making him the first Rangers player to score multiple points in each of the first four games of a season.

Panarin, who has tallied five goals and six assists so far, is in elite company—only Connor McDavid has matched that early-season production with 11 points in four games during 2021-22.

The Rangers’ special teams were key in their last victory, going 3-for-4 on the power play and successfully killing 4-of-5 penalties, including a crucial 5-on-3 in the first period. Two of Panarin’s goals and his assist came during power plays, with teammate Vincent Trocheck praising his impact. “He’s a special player, and when he’s on the power play, it opens up the ice for everyone,” Trocheck said.

Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs are aiming to extend their winning streak to four games after a 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday. Captain Auston Matthews scored his 200th home goal, becoming the fourth player in team history to reach that milestone and the fastest active NHL player to do so. Matthews added two assists, while Bobby McMann, who has been sparking Toronto’s offense alongside William Nylander and Max Domi, chipped in with two goals.

Goaltender Joseph Woll, recovering from minor groin tightness, hopes to be back in action soon as Toronto looks to maintain its strong form.
