Game Preview

The New Jersey Devils are looking to capitalize on their home-ice advantage as they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night. After managing only 37 points in 41 home games last season (17-21-3) and allowing the second-most goals at home in the NHL, the Devils have gone 1-1-1 at Prudential Center this season. Their most recent outing was a 6-5 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals on Saturday, where Nico Hischier scored two goals within 10 seconds, setting a franchise record.

Despite this achievement, Hischier expressed disappointment with the team’s performance, saying, “We didn’t deserve to win. We fought back, but we were outskated in the first period, and that can’t happen if you want to win in this league.”

While the Devils await the return of key defensemen Brett Pesce and Luke Hughes, both sidelined with injuries, they’ve called up Daniil Misyul from their AHL affiliate and sent Seamus Casey back to Utica.

Tampa Bay, meanwhile, is looking to rebound after a 5-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday. Lightning coach Jon Cooper acknowledged the team’s mistakes, stating, "Every time we made an error, they capitalized." Jonas Johansson is expected to start in goal on Tuesday after stepping in during Monday’s game, where Andrei Vasilevskiy was pulled. Johansson has a solid record against the Devils, with a 1-1 record and a .913 save percentage in two career starts.

Nicholas Paul and Brayden Point have been consistent contributors for the Lightning, each with five points through the first five games. Paul, coming off a career-high season, has goals in back-to-back games, while Point continues to be a key offensive threat for Tampa Bay.
