Game Preview

After sweeping a two-game road trip through Anaheim and Utah, the Pacific Division-leading Vegas Golden Knights return to T-Mobile Arena for a brief stop to host the Washington Capitals on Sunday. This marks the lone home game in a grueling 15-day stretch featuring seven of eight games on the road.

The Golden Knights boast an 8-1-0 home record this season but saw their franchise-record-tying eight-game home win streak snapped in a 5-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday. They rebounded strongly, defeating Anaheim 3-2 on Wednesday and rallying for a 4-2 victory over Utah on Friday in Salt Lake City.

In Friday’s game, Vegas overcame a 2-0 deficit with two power-play goals from Tomas Hertl before William Karlsson sealed the win with a late redirect and an empty-net goal. Goaltender Adin Hill delivered a stellar 32-save performance, keeping the team competitive during a challenging first period.

“We stuck with it and got rewarded,” said Karlsson. “We don’t give up, and having a great goalie helps a lot.”

The Capitals are in the midst of a three-game road swing that started with an impressive 5-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday. Connor McMichael netted two goals to lead the team with 12 this season, while Alex Ovechkin added an assist to reach 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) through 16 games.

Ovechkin joined Gordie Howe as the only players 39 years or older to tally 20 points in the first 16 games of a season. The Capitals also stifled Colorado’s offense, holding the Avalanche to a season-low 19 shots and preventing star Nathan MacKinnon from recording a shot for the first time in 79 games.

“I thought we did a phenomenal job against their top players,” Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said. Pierre-Luc Dubois, with two assists and a strong defensive effort, played a key role in shutting down MacKinnon’s line.

The Capitals now face a back-to-back challenge against Vegas and Utah, aiming to build on their defensive prowess and climb in the standings.

With Vegas thriving at home and Washington riding high after a signature road win, Sunday’s matchup promises to be a test of resilience and firepower. Bettors should keep an eye on Vegas’ ability to dominate at T-Mobile Arena and Washington’s defensive strength against top-tier offenses.
