Game Preview
Since returning stateside after a tough series in the NHL’s Global Series, the Dallas Stars are finding their rhythm. They aim to continue their winning streak as they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night.
Dallas has gone 5-4 in November, bouncing back from back-to-back losses to the Florida Panthers in Finland. They’ve now won five of their last seven games. In their latest outing, the Stars put on an offensive clinic, defeating the San Jose Sharks 5-2. The balanced attack featured goals from five different players, showing Dallas’ depth and team effort.
“We all felt good. It’s great to have contributions from everyone,” said Wyatt Johnston, one of the scorers in the victory.
Despite losing defenseman Nils Lundkvist early in the game, the Stars’ veteran blue-liners held strong. Head coach Pete DeBoer praised the stability provided by Esa Lindell, Matt Dumba, Miro Heiskanen, and Ilya Lyubushkin.
Historically, Dallas has struggled against Tampa Bay, winning just four of their last 14 meetings since the Lightning claimed victory over the Stars in the 2019-20 Stanley Cup Final.
The Lightning are coming off a high-scoring 7-6 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, a game that showcased defensive lapses. Tampa Bay had built an early 3-1 lead but allowed Columbus to storm back with four goals in the second period. Zach Werenski sealed the game for the Blue Jackets with a career-high five points, including the overtime winner.
The defeat was particularly frustrating for Tampa Bay head coach Jon Cooper, as it ended the team’s hopes of a four-game winning streak.
“We played like we were stuck in quicksand,” Cooper said. “There’s a recipe for how we need to play, and we didn’t follow it.”
The Lightning will look to rebound but might be without forward Nick Paul, who was scratched Thursday with an undisclosed injury. Paul, who has 13 points in 17 games, is on pace for a career-best season.
Saturday’s clash offers a chance for both teams to prove themselves—Dallas to extend their winning ways and Tampa Bay to shake off an unexpected loss. Bettors should watch for the Stars’ offensive momentum and the Lightning’s need for redemption.
