NHL Playoffs Preview – Kings vs Oilers Game 1

Los Angeles is favored on the moneyline at -128 | Total set at 5.5 goals

For the fourth straight year, the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers will go head-to-head in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This time, however, the Kings hold home-ice advantage — and they’re hoping that change flips the script on recent playoff history.

Los Angeles Kings Outlook

Los Angeles enters this series with confidence, having won three of the four regular-season meetings against Edmonton, including back-to-back shutouts. The Kings outscored the Oilers 12-4 in those matchups and finished four points ahead in the standings, earning home-ice for the first time in their playoff battles.

The Kings are banking on improved depth and special teams play, particularly a rejuvenated power play unit that’s surged since acquiring Andrei Kuzmenko. The key focus for LA will be neutralizing Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, something they’ve had moderate success doing in the regular season.

Adrian Kempe summed it up: “We believe this is the best version of our team yet.”

Los Angeles posted one of the league’s best home records this season and will lean on that edge to gain early momentum. If they win the special teams battle and contain Edmonton’s top scorers, this could be the year they finally advance past their rivals.

Edmonton Oilers Outlook

The Oilers have had LA’s number in the past three postseasons, and even though they’re opening the series on the road, they’re far from underdogs. With McDavid, Draisaitl, and Zach Hyman all expected to return to the lineup, Edmonton’s firepower is as potent as ever.

Health remains a question mark. While several key players are working their way back — including Evander Kane, John Klingberg, and Troy Stecher — Edmonton will be without defenseman Mattias Ekholm for Game 1. Still, McDavid is brushing off injury concerns: “We’re ready to roll.”

Edmonton’s playoff experience and explosive offense can’t be overlooked, especially with their ability to flip a game in a matter of minutes. But the concern remains defensively — if LA controls possession and tempo, Edmonton may struggle to keep the puck out of their net.

Betting Prediction

Moneyline Pick: Los Angeles Kings (-128)
Over/Under Prediction: Under 5.5 (-112)
Final Score Prediction: Kings 3, Oilers 2

The Kings’ improved depth, strong home record, and recent dominance over Edmonton give them the upper hand in this opening game. Expect a tight, physical battle with playoff intensity, but LA draws first blood in what should be a highly competitive series.
