Sean Manaea gets the ball in this high-pressure Game 162. It’s been a rocky road for the lefty, who owns a 7.64 ERA in September after struggling in August as well. Still, the Mets’ offense has found late-season life, with Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso carrying the lineup. Despite mixed results against the Mets in the past (5.80 ERA in nine starts), this has been one of Cabrera’s most consistent campaigns. His 25 starts and 143 strikeouts mark career highs, and he’ll be eager to deny New York a postseason berth.
Offensively, the Marlins have struggled to match up against New York’s big bats, but third baseman Connor Norby and slugger Junior Caminero have been bright spots down the stretch. Miami already leads the season series 6-5, giving them confidence they can spoil the Mets’ plans.
