Tampa Bay Hopes Texas Finally Runs Out of Gas

The Rangers have gone from “Is this team broken?” to “Somebody please unplug them.” After sitting below .500 in late May, Texas caught fire and climbed to the top of the AL West. Turns out moving Joc Pederson to the leadoff spot was like finding the cheat code nobody else knew existed.

Pederson has been smashing baseballs all month, hitting .304 in July while batting .291 as the leadoff hitter. He has 19 home runs and 40 RBIs through 96 games, proving pitchers probably sigh every time they see his name in the lineup.

Home Sweet Dome

Tampa Bay rarely loses at home, but Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat reminded everyone that even the best home teams occasionally forget where they left the offense. Cal Quantrill kept the Rays quiet while flashing some slick defense, leaving Tampa hitters looking like they were swinging pool noodles.

Even so, a 38-16 home record isn’t something to ignore. The Rays usually bounce back quickly in their own building.

Lefties Looking For Answers

Texas sends MacKenzie Gore (6-8, 4.82 ERA) to the mound, but July has been rough. He’s 1-2 with a 7.66 ERA this month and is still searching for consistency before summer officially packs its bags.

The Rays will use Casey Legumina as an opener before handing things over to Ian Seymour (6-3, 4.64 ERA). Seymour hasn’t exactly been untouchable either, carrying a 5.32 ERA in July after dropping his last two outings. This pitching matchup feels like two guys arguing over whose GPS is more lost.

LVSB Prediction

Texas has been rolling, but Tampa Bay has made a habit of protecting its home field all season. With Gore struggling and the Rays eager to erase Tuesday’s loss, the home side has the edge.
