Chicago Cubs: Wrigley’s Ready to Explode

Oh, it’s winner-take-all time, baby and the Cubs have just the guy to help prevent another heartbreak in front of the Wrigley diehards: Jameson Taillon, aka Mr. Calm-the-Hell-Down. He’s been cruising lately like he’s pitching with a cigar in one hand and a brew in the other, 4-1 in his last six starts and only six earned runs allowed over 34 1/3 innings. Yeah, that’s cooler than a rooftop seat in April.

Sure, Game 2 was a snooze-fest offensively. We’re talkin’ four hits, a whole lot of nothing, and probably some spilled Old Style in frustration. Pete Crow-Armstrong looked like he was swinging a spaghetti noodle out there (0-for-6 with five strikeouts), but baseball’s cruel like that. Maybe he saves it for today? Cubs fans are praying like it’s 2016 again.

Still, you can bet the Cubs find a spark at home today. This team’s built to bounce back, and the moneyline says it’s tight, but Chicago’s slight favorite for a reason.

San Diego Padres: Darvish Returns to His Ex

Yu Darvish strolls into Wrigley like the charming ex who just got a glow-up. He’s 39, still spinning nasty stuff, and pitching against the team that once paid his bills. Sentimental? Maybe. Dangerous? Definitely.

He’s 3-2 with a 2.36 ERA against the Cubbies, and while his ERA this season has been a bit like a rollercoaster designed by a madman (5.38), he’s been better down the stretch. Plus, the Padres bullpen looked like a Marvel villain squad in Game 2, striking guys out like it was free and closing doors like a 3 a.m. bar in Wrigleyville.

Mason Miller? Absolute psycho on the mound. Suarez? Ice in his veins. If San Diego gets a lead early, they’ve got the arms to shut the whole city down.

Final Prediction

Wrigley’s rocking, the beers are flowing, and Chicago edges out the win in a tight one. Take the Cubs to advance and pray for fewer strikeouts this time. It’s the postseason, nothing makes sense and everything hurts.

Let the chaos begin.

Score Prediction: Cubs 4, Padres 2
Pick: Chi. Cubs (-115)
