Timberwolves: Edwards Turns into Superman (and Maybe a Chiropractor’s Dream)
Anthony Edwards showed up in Portland looking like a man possessed or maybe just fueled by extra-strength Advil. Back spasms? No problem. The dude dropped 41 points, grabbed seven boards, and hit clutch shots like it was a highlight reel audition for “NBA Street Vol. 5.”
Even when he admitted after the game, “It’s hurting, I’m in pain right now,” everyone in Minnesota just nodded and said, “Yeah, pain for other teams.”
The Timberwolves’ offense was rolling, especially late. Down one with under two minutes to go, Edwards decided that was enough drama for one night, closing it out with five straight points. Julius Randle chipped in 19 points, proving that he’s adjusting nicely to life in Minnesota, where assists are appreciated, and frostbite is optional.
With momentum from their opener and Edwards’ apparent ability to play through anything short of a meteor strike, Minnesota looks primed to build on that win. If they can keep the defense consistent and avoid early foul trouble, they could make the Lakers wish this game was postponed indefinitely.
Lakers: No LeBron, No Luck, and No Rhythm
Meanwhile in L.A., things are looking about as smooth as a car with three flat tires. The Lakers opened the season against the Warriors, shot a solid 54%, and still found a way to lose by ten. That’s elite-level frustration.
LeBron James is sidelined with sciatica and won’t return until sometime in November, leaving Austin Reaves to lead the offense and to his credit, he did, scoring 26 points and dishing nine assists. The bad news? Nobody else joined him. Deandre Ayton managed 10 points, and everyone else seemed to forget the basket exists after halftime.
Coach JJ Redick (yes, it still feels weird saying that) was not thrilled about his team’s third-quarter performance or lack thereof. “We continue to be a terrible third-quarter team,” he said. Translation: halftime pep talks are turning into nap time.
NBA Prediction
The Timberwolves have rhythm, health (sort of), and an MVP-caliber scorer in Edwards, while the Lakers are basically holding auditions for secondary scorers. Unless someone in purple and gold discovers how to shoot threes overnight, this one feels tilted toward Minnesota.
