Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Preview

Tampa Bay enters on a three game skid, but the mood around the Bucs does not match their losing streak. They are still sitting on top of a weak NFC South, even if their defensive leaks over the last three games have shrunk the margin. This matchup carries plenty of urgency as the Bucs watch the Panthers creeping in at 6-6.

The biggest storyline is Baker Mayfield gutting it out through a painful left shoulder sprain. He has played through far worse in his Cleveland days, but his mobility and accuracy will dictate how much Tampa Bay can push the ball downfield. If he cannot go, Teddy Bridgewater is waiting, but the organization clearly hopes it does not come to that.

The defense may not be collapsing, but it sure is bending more than Todd Bowles would prefer. Tampa Bay has allowed too many chunk plays recently and faces a veteran passer who thrives on rhythm and timing. There is still enough talent on this roster to stabilize, but urgency is high and mistakes cannot continue.

The return of Bucky Irving gives Tampa a major lift. Even with strong contributions from Rachaad White and Sean Tucker, Irving adds the explosive rushing element that was missing since early in the season. Tampa Bay will lean heavily on its backfield to ease pressure on a wounded Mayfield.

Arizona Cardinals Betting Preview

Arizona has dropped eight of nine and looks locked into last place in the NFC West. Still, their effort level has not disappeared, and with Jacoby Brissett taking over for the injured Kyler Murray, the Cardinals offense suddenly looks more steady. Brissett has been productive, averaging more than 300 passing yards per start while protecting the football.

The issue for Arizona is closing out games. Brissett is right that the Cards are only a few plays away, but few plays keep turning into losses. This matchup is another test of whether they can finish drives instead of settling for field goals or self inflicted mistakes.

Arizona’s pass rush has not been dominant, but Josh Sweat and the ageless Calais Campbell are real problems. Sweat’s bend and burst off the edge have produced nine sacks, while Campbell somehow continues to win with strength, size and technique at nearly 40 years old. Against a banged up quarterback, both rushers could swing momentum.

The Cardinals defense has not quit, but its thin depth shows up against more complete offenses. With Tampa Bay expected to run the ball more, Arizona must set edges and tackle far better than it has over the past month.

NFL Prediction & Betting Angle

Tampa Bay has more to play for, a deeper roster and a real chance to physically control this matchup on the ground. Arizona will compete, but their late game execution has been a season long problem. Even with Baker playing hurt, the Bucs have the stronger offensive line and more reliable defense.

Final Score:  Buccaneers 24, Cardinals 17
Lean:  Tampa Bay -3.5
