Toronto Raptors Betting Preview
Toronto heads into Houston riding some positive momentum after dismantling Dallas 122 to 92. The biggest story from that game was RJ Barrett, who erupted for a season high 31 points while finally looking like the fully healthy version Raptors fans expected this season.
Barrett spent much of the year dealing with a nagging knee injury that limited his mobility and forced him to miss significant time. Now that he says he is feeling normal again, his impact on both ends of the floor could be huge for Toronto.
Offensively, Barrett gives the Raptors another aggressive scorer capable of attacking the rim and creating shots. Defensively, his size and athleticism help anchor Toronto’s perimeter defense. Coach Darko Rajakovic emphasized that Barrett’s defensive energy often fuels the team’s overall intensity.
If Barrett continues playing with this level of activity, Toronto becomes a much more balanced team. The Raptors also have several versatile defenders who can slow down Houston’s offensive rhythm, which could make this matchup tighter than the betting line suggests.
Houston Rockets Betting Preview
Houston enters this contest looking to rebound from a rough defensive performance in a 145 to 120 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The Rockets struggled badly on that end of the floor, allowing San Antonio to shoot 58 percent from the field while giving up 21 made three pointers.
The Rockets also surrendered 56 points in the paint, which was their worst defensive showing of the season in that category. Turnovers were another concern despite committing just 12 as a team. Those mistakes still turned into 25 points for the Spurs.
Alperen Sengun remains the centerpiece of Houston’s offense, but ball security has become an issue recently. Sengun committed five turnovers in the loss and has now recorded multiple turnovers in 12 straight games. Over his last four games he is averaging six giveaways per contest.
Coach Ime Udoka has stressed that Sengun and Kevin Durant must take better care of the ball since opposing defenses are increasingly collapsing on Sengun in pick and roll situations.
Houston did dominate the previous meeting between these teams earlier in the season with a 139 to 121 win in Toronto. Durant led the way with 31 points in that matchup.
NBA Prediction and Betting Outlook
Bovada oddsmakers list Houston as a 5 point favorite with the total set at 217. Toronto’s improved defense and Barrett’s return to form make the Raptors a strong candidate to stay within the number.
Houston still has the more explosive offensive firepower and should ultimately find a way to secure the win at home.
