San Antonio Spurs: The Wemby Show Continues
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to San Antonio where Victor Wembanyama is currently ruining sportsbooks and opposing defenses at the same time. The Spurs are on an absolute heater, winning four straight and a ridiculous 14 of their last 15 games. Basically, if you’ve been betting against them recently, your wallet probably filed for unemployment.
Their latest demolition came in a 145 to 120 win over Houston where Wembanyama casually dropped 29 points like it was a Tuesday morning coffee run. Stephon Castle chipped in 23 points, De’Aaron Fox added 20 points and 10 assists, and Keldon Johnson tossed in another 20 just for fun.
San Antonio shot 58 percent from the field and drilled 21 three pointers because apparently defense is optional when they get rolling.
Coach Mitch Johnson says the scoring starts with defense and rebounding, which is adorable because once this team gets out in transition it looks like a basketball version of a Formula 1 race.
Oh and by the way, the Spurs already beat Boston 100 to 95 earlier this season. So yes, they know the recipe.
Bovada have them favored by 3.5 points and honestly that feels about right for a team currently playing like a cheat code.
Boston Celtics: Defensive Avengers Assemble
Meanwhile Boston arrives with their own collection of basketball superheroes. Jaylen Brown led the charge in their latest 109 to 98 win over Cleveland with 23 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Jayson Tatum added 20 points while still adjusting to his minutes restriction after returning from an Achilles tear.
Tatum openly admitted the minutes restriction “sucks,” which is the most relatable quote an NBA superstar has ever delivered.
The Celtics also got serious production from the bench. Payton Pritchard scored 18 points, Baylor Scheierman had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Sam Hauser drained five three pointers for 15 points.
Boston continues to do what Boston does best. Lock teams down defensively. They lead the league allowing just 106.9 points per game and have held opponents under 100 points 19 times this season.
However, they will be without Nikola Vucevic after surgery on his right ring finger, which slightly complicates things when you’re trying to slow down a seven foot alien named Wembanyama.
LVSB Betting Prediction
This one has all the ingredients of a playoff style battle. Boston brings the defense. San Antonio brings the chaos. The betting line sits at Spurs minus 3.5 with the total at 223.0.
The Celtics defense will keep this game tight, but San Antonio’s offensive depth and Wembanyama’s dominance give them the late edge.
Final Score: Spurs 113, Celtics 108
