LA Rams vs LA Chargers Preview & Prediction
Spread: LA Chargers -3.5
Moneyline: LA Chargers (-170)
Total: 38.5
Chargers Get the Fancy Dress Rehearsal
The Chargers enter the preseason finale at 1-1, and Jim Harbaugh is actually letting the starters touch the grass. Justin Herbert is expected to play around 6 to 9 snaps, basically enough time to remind everyone he exists before being wrapped in industrial-strength bubble wrap.
Derwin James and Khalil Mack will sit, while Trey Lance and DJ Uiagalelei handle most of the quarterback work after Herbert exits. For the fringe receivers and edge rushers, this is less “preseason football” and more “please don’t cut me Sunday.”
Rams Bring the Backup Army
The Rams are 2-0 and Sean McVay is once again treating preseason starters like priceless museum exhibits: look, don’t touch.
Ty Simpson has been excellent, completing 29 of 37 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns. He’ll split work with Stetson Bennett IV, while rookie Jarquez Hunter and Brennan Presley get one final chance to make noise before roster cuts.
Los Angeles has already beaten Kansas City 20-12 and obliterated New Orleans 34-0. Apparently their backups did not receive the memo that preseason games are supposed to be meaningless.
LVSB Betting Take
The Chargers are laying 3.5, and the short Herbert cameo gives them an early offensive edge. But the Rams’ depth has looked much sharper than most second units, which makes this less comfortable than the spread suggests.
Still, the Chargers should have enough quarterback talent to control the game late.
