With a new general manager and head coach on board, the New York Giants are looking for a fresh start in 2022 but it won’t be easy by any means. GM Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll inherited a team with a salary mess, an injury-plagued roster and a quarterback who still hasn’t lived up to the franchise tag that some envisioned when he was drafted sixth overall back in 2019. A winning season in 2022 would be an overachievement for the Giants but the reality is that this franchise is in a major overhaul so the expectations are showing improvements starting with this season. Since 2016 when they last made the playoffs, the Giants have won an average of less than 5 games per season.
In the last ten years, the Giants have been the laughingstock of the league with miserable decisions at every turn. Whether it’s hiring the wrong coaches by two inept GMs, screwing up draft picks and overpaying free-agent busts, the Giants have been a debacle. Indeed, there is a lot to be done this season for the Giants. Quarterback Daniel Jones is still a big question mark and the team is determined to disprove the fact they made a mistake by picking the Duke product so high in the draft. Nevertheless, New York was 0-6 when Jones was out with an injury but still only manage four wins last season. The Daboll hire was well-received but still, the former Buffalo OC is a rookie Head Coach and will manage in a tough market.
To his defense, Jones was surrounded by lackluster talent along with a horrible offensive line and an explosive running back in Saquon Barkley, who has missed 18 games in the past three years. However, by declining Jones’ fifth-year option, the Giants were probably admitting that he isn’t the long-term solution behind center. The Giants did bolster their front line on both sides of the ball with two first-round picks with DE Kayvon Thibodeaux and T Evan Neal, who should be starters immediately. However, due to cap room space, the Giants didn’t really add any significant talent on defense aside from Thibodeaux’s selection.
Outside of games against the Packers, Ravens and twice against the Cowboys, the Giants have one of the easiest schedules on paper. Carolina, Chicago, Houston, Jacksonville, Detroit and Seattle are all on their slate in the coming season.

The Bottom Line:
Most are convinced that if Jones could be better protected, he could emerge as a decent signal-caller but he has consistently struggled with his accuracy which won’t matter even with an improved offensive line. Plus, Jones cannot really flourish as a passer with some major concerns with his receiving corps. Obviously, the Giants are on a rebuilding mode, especially on defense and the offense has yet to find an identity.
Last year’s record: 4-13
My Prediction: 6-11
