Football Is Back… Sort Of
Real football is finally here… well, preseason football. Which means fans will convince themselves they’ve found the next Tom Brady after one touchdown drive, only to forget the guy’s name by Labor Day.
Arizona and Carolina kick off the exhibition schedule in Canton, where the scoreboard doesn’t matter—but everyone pretends it does anyway.
Rookie Time to Shine
Carson Beck gets the first crack for Arizona after being selected in the third round. With Jacoby Brissett locked in as QB1 and Gardner Minshew waiting behind him, this is Beck’s chance to prove he’s more than a preseason trivia answer.
The rookie says he doesn’t get nervous anymore. That’s either incredible confidence… or he hasn’t seen NFL pass rushers yet.
Jerimiyah Love won’t suit up, leaving the spotlight squarely on Beck.
Pickett’s NFL World Tour
Meanwhile, Kenny Pickett continues collecting NFL jerseys like they’re Pokémon cards. Carolina is already his fifth team in four years, but he’ll get the start while Bryce Young enjoys a front-row seat.
Pickett once led Pittsburgh to a 14-10 record as a starter and now hopes to remind everyone why he was once a first-round pick instead of football’s favorite frequent flyer.
Monroe Freeling will also sit this one out.
Panthers Looking Forward
Carolina won the NFC South at 8-9 last season and nearly shocked the Rams in the playoffs before Matthew Stafford found Colby Parkinson for the game-winning touchdown with only 38 seconds left.
Coach Dave Canales is mainly excited his players can finally hit someone wearing a different jersey instead of each other.
LVSB Betting Verdict
Expect plenty of substitutions, conservative play-calling and enough quarterback changes to confuse even the TV announcers. Carolina’s depth and home-field momentum should be enough to sneak away with the preseason bragging rights.
