The Valkyries are 23-9, riding a four-game winning streak and apparently haven’t forgotten that Chicago somehow beat them 69-63 earlier this season.
That loss was ugly. Golden State shot just 29.3% from the field and went 7-for-26 from downtown. Basically, the rim filed a restraining order.
Things have changed. Golden State is averaging a ridiculous 91.5 points during its four-game heater and enters as an 8-point favorite.
Veronica Burton has been running the show beautifully, totaling 29 points and 14 assists with only one turnover across wins over Dallas and Los Angeles. Golden State just beat the Sparks 84-78, and its offense is finally matching an already elite defense.
Chicago: Remember Us?
Chicago is 12-21, eliminated from playoff contention and arrives in San Francisco having lost two straight.
But hey, the Sky already own the season’s strangest receipt: beating Golden State.
DiJonai Carrington gives Chicago some life after scoring a team-high 26 points in Monday’s 97-88 loss to Seattle. She returned after being ejected against Indiana for a flagrant foul involving Sophie Cunningham and immediately reminded everyone that subtlety isn’t exactly part of the Carrington experience.
Chicago can score enough to hang around, but slowing this version of Golden State is much different from facing the early-season Valkyries.
