The Cleveland Cavaliers promise to be one of the most fun and interesting teams to watch in the NBA this season. They shook the NBA world with a last-minute Godfather offer that brought in Donovan Mitchell from the Jazz to spearhead one of the most talented young lineups in the league.

At 26-years-old he now the oldest starter in their starting five, with next in line being Jarrett Allen at 24.

Power forward Evan Mobley was a two-way force in his rookie year and he’s still younger than fellow USC alum Isaiah Mobley who was drafted this season. PG Darius Garland was a huge step up on the departed Collin Sexton as a distributor at point guard and the arrow appears to be pointing straight up for this young, but talented core.

Even before the addition of Mitchell, they did good work to address their depth, bringing back PG Ricky Rubio (out till January) and C Robin Lopez.

Last year they bowed out in the play-in round. This year there are real expectations that it’s playoffs or bust.

Liev Jackson NBA Season Prediction on Cavaliers:

The Cavaliers have positioned themselves well to be one of the top-six teams in the East. The experience of last season was priceless and now they have one of those key players in Mitchell to help lift them to a new level.

It may take a few weeks to figure out the new pecking order, but it helps that Garland is as much a distributor as he is a scorer, and Mobley and Allen can make as huge an impact with their defense as their offense.

The narrative is there for some of their players to get individual awards if the team takes the leap forward that is expected of them, so from a betting perspective, I like that value a lot.

Favorite bets for the season at current odds include:

  • 2022-23 Regular Season Win Total: Over 46½ (-135)
  • 6th Man OTY: Caris LeVert   +5000
  • Defensive Player OTY: Evan Mobley   +2000

2021-22 Record: 44-38
My Record Prediction:
 50-32
