Connecticut vs Atlanta Preview & Prediction

Connecticut Sun: Road Trip Nightmares

The Sun finally won a basketball game Saturday and the entire state of Connecticut reacted like they discovered fire for the first time. After losing eight of their first nine games, Connecticut barely survived against the Sparks in an 84-81 win that probably took three years off the coaching staff’s lives.

Now comes the reward: a road game against one of the hottest teams in the WNBA. Fantastic scheduling luck there.

Brittney Griner continues carrying the offense with 13.5 points per game, while Aneesah Morrow is doing her best double-double factory impression with 12 points and 10.1 rebounds nightly. The problem is the Sun offense still scores like somebody put a lid on the basket. Connecticut enters averaging just 75.6 points per game, which feels illegal in modern basketball.

Coach Rachid Meziane deserves credit for keeping this team competitive despite constant travel and enough losses to trigger emotional damage. Still, asking this offense to suddenly explode against Atlanta feels optimistic at best and financially irresponsible at worst.

Atlanta Dream: Double Double Factory

Meanwhile, Atlanta looks like a team fully realizing it might actually be dangerous this season. The Dream sit near the top of the Eastern Conference standings and have won three of their last four games while casually flattening Portland by 20 points Friday.

Angel Reese delivered one of her best all-around performances with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. Atlanta is increasingly letting Reese operate as a playmaker, which is terrifying for opponents because now she’s rebounding missed shots and also throwing passes like a point guard who drank five energy drinks.

Allisha Gray continues leading the team with 20.4 points per game, while Rhyne Howard adds another 16.5 nightly. Atlanta suddenly has multiple scoring threats, strong rebounding, and enough athleticism to make transition defense feel optional for opponents.

Coach Karl Smesko has this team playing fast, aggressive, and confident. More importantly for bettors, Atlanta continues dominating weaker opponents instead of playing down to competition.

Game Prediction

Connecticut deserves credit for fighting hard lately, but Atlanta simply has too much firepower, pace, and offensive depth. The Dream should control this game early and spend the second half treating the scoreboard like a personal hobby.

Final Score: Dream 91, Sun 72
Lean: Atlanta -13.0
Total:
Over 160.5
