Dallas Mavericks 2022-23 NBA Preview, Season Odds, Props & Futures Predictions

Oddsmakers Aren’t Giving Mavericks Enough Respect

The Dallas Mavericks upset the Phoenix Suns in round two of the playoffs last year and helped to usher in a complete teardown of the Utah Jazz after dismissing them in the first round.

The Golden State Warriors exposed them as not being quite ready for the big stage as they took out the Mavericks in a gentleman’s sweep, conceding game four, before dismissing them in five.

This is a team led by arguably the brightest young star in the league in Luka Doncic, and the experience gained in making it through three rounds of the playoffs should be invaluable as he enters year five in the league.

Jason Kidd has installed a strong defensive ethos for the team, and in signing JaVale McGee and trading for Christian Wood to shore up the center spot, the Mavericks addressed their biggest weakness which was exposed by the Warriors.

Replacing guard Jalen Brunson won’t be easy after he signed with the Knicks, and that plus keeping their starters healthy could make or break their season which has championship aspirations.

Liev Jackson NBA Season Prediction on Mavericks:

Having the Mavericks as 20-1 shots to win the title, with 11 teams ahead of them is why I think oddsmakers are not giving the Mavericks and Doncic enough credit. Or perhaps that’s the price they set, because the betting public doesn’t give them enough respect as a true challenger for the title.

Doncic was able to elevate his game to new heights last year, and that should only improve this year. Spencer Dinwiddie proved to be a terrific addition at the trade deadline, and both Tim Hardaway Jr. and Reggie Bullock have a proven track record as long-range shooters, even if they had down seasons last year.

Rookie guard Jayden Hardy played the G-League last year and he should have a terrific opportunity to bring consistent secondary scoring and replace some of what Brunson brought to the table.

As a sneaky longshot pick with a ton of upside, you could do a lot worse than hitch your cart to the Mavericks.
