Mother Nature apparently bought tickets for Saturday and decided nobody was playing baseball. Instead, the Dodgers and Yankees kick off Sunday’s doubleheader with an All-Star pitching duel that actually feels worthy of prime time.
Yamamoto Looks to Erase the Last Disaster
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (9-6, 2.85 ERA) heads into the Bronx trying to convince everyone his last outing was just a software update gone wrong. Arizona tagged him for six runs before the break, but let’s not pretend that’s been the norm. He dominated earlier this season with four straight wins and has already proven Yankee Stadium doesn’t scare him after allowing just two hits with seven strikeouts there in 2024.If New York was hoping he’d forget where the strike zone is, good luck with that.
Schlittler Has Been a Walking Headache
Cam Schlittler (9-5, 2.05 ERA) has quietly turned into one of the nastiest pitchers in the American League. Opponents are batting just .200 against him, and his 137 strikeouts rank among the league leaders. He has surrendered two earned runs or fewer in 16 of his 20 starts, making life miserable for hitters on a weekly basis. The Dodgers are meeting him for the first time, which is about as comforting as reading the terms and conditions after clicking “Accept.”
Dodgers Have the Slight Edge
Los Angeles snapped its losing streak Friday behind Max Muncy’s clutch two-run homer, while Mookie Betts reminded everyone that runners attempting to score on his arm should probably update their life insurance. Meanwhile, the Yankees continue trying to survive without Aaron Judge, and replacing that bat has been about as successful as replacing coffee with warm tap water.
LVSB’s Prediction
This has all the ingredients of a low-scoring pitching duel. Runs should be harder to find than a Yankees fan admitting the Dodgers are pretty good.
Final Score: Dodgers 4, Yankees 2
