Wrigley Gets a Division Reality Check
If the Cubs are serious about chasing Milwaukee in the NL Central, this four-game set is where the motivational posters have to turn into actual wins.
Chicago enters eight games behind the Brewers after dropping Sunday’s finale to Cincinnati 7-5. The Cubs have also lost seven of their last 10, which is not exactly ideal timing when seven of their next 10 games come against Milwaukee.
Pete Crow-Armstrong remains the bright spot. After blasting three homers Saturday, he added two more Sunday and now owns 38 on the season, second in MLB behind Kyle Schwarber’s 40.
Apparently PCA has decided singles are boring.
Harrison Has Owned Chicago
Milwaukee sends Kyle Harrison to the mound at 10-3 with a 2.79 ERA.
The left-hander allowed just one run across five innings against the Mets last time out, striking out five.
More importantly, Harrison is 1-0 with a ridiculous 1.38 ERA in three career appearances against Chicago. He has 22 strikeouts and only two walks over 13 innings against the Cubs.
That’s less “pitching matchup” and more “restraining order.”
Holmes Is Finally Rolling
Chicago counters with Clay Holmes, who enters 5-6 with an excellent 2.26 ERA.
Holmes was brilliant against Arizona in his latest start, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing only two hits and striking out five.
His history against Milwaukee is much uglier: 1-3 with a 5.96 ERA in 18 appearances.
Still, Holmes appears increasingly comfortable after returning from the right fibula fracture that sidelined him in May.

Chicago is a slight -113 moneyline favorite, with Cubs -1.5 paying +175 and the total sitting at 9.5.
The Cubs desperately need this game, but Milwaukee brings the stronger recent form and Harrison’s history against Chicago is difficult to ignore.
