New York Jets 2022-23 NFL Preview, Schedule, Season Odds, Picks & Predictions

New York Jets Poised to register first winning season since 2015

It has been an abysmal last couple of campaigns for the New York Jets winning just six combined games during that stretch but things are looking up for Gang Green as GM Joe Douglas prioritized a sound rebuild around his young quarterback Zach Wilson. They arguably snatched the best receiver in the draft in Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall while 2021 first-round picks WR Elijah Moore and G Alijah Vera-Tucker have shown that they belong in the league.

If former fifth overall pick WR Corey Davis and Moore can deliver, that will go a long way toward benefiting Wilson’s progression. The BYU product will have a solid duo in the backfield in Hall and Michael Carter, who had decent numbers (639 yds, 4 TD’s) in his rookie season. Hall was a mighty dual-threat presence for Iowa State with 1,472 yards rushing while amassing 306 yards through the air with 23 overall touchdowns.

Douglas’ free agency additions was also fruitful for the Jets. G Laken Tomlinson was a pro-bowler last year and cornerback D.J. Reed had a great season for Seattle. Tight ends C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin combined for 1,086 receiving yards and eight TDs for the Bengals and Ravens respectively. Defensively, adding CBs Ahmad Gardner and Reed should help what was the worst defensive unit in the league last season.

The Jets’ optimism could be spoiled in a hurry as their schedule is a brutal one. Their first nine opponents had a 76-60 record last season with only three teams in this group with a losing record (Ravens, Browns and Broncos).

New York Jets Offseason Moves:
Notable Additions: TE C.J. Uzomah, TE Tyler Conklin, G Laken Tomlinson, DE Solomon Thomas, OLB Jacob Martin, ILB Kwon Alexander, CB D.J. Reed, S Jordan Whitehead, K Greg Zuerlein
Notable Departures: WR Jamison Crowder, TE Ryan Griffin, OT Morgan Moses, G Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, G Greg Van Roten, DT Foley Fatukasi, LB Blake Cashman, S Marcus Maye
1st and 2nd Draft Picks: CB Ahmad Gardner (4), WR Garrett Wilson (10), DE Jermaine Johnson II (26), RB Breece Hall (36)

2022-23 New York Jets NFL Futures Odds

While the Jets have greatly improved roster-wise, hoping for the 2022 draft haul to help them immediately is wishful thinking and that tough schedule is a major problem one can just not ignore. Overall, 5.5 wins is a reasonable prospect for this campaign but that ruthless stretch to start the year could prove fatal for troop morale.
Last year’s record: 4-13
My Prediction: 5-12
