Trail Blazers vs. Spurs Betting Preview & Prediction
Line: Portland -4.5 | Total: 228.0
Two teams clinging to the slimmest postseason hopes face off on Sunday as the Portland Trail Blazers host the San Antonio Spurs. Neither squad has officially been eliminated, but both need miracles to extend their season beyond the regular schedule.
Portland Trail Blazers Outlook
The Trail Blazers (34-44) are on the brink but still mathematically alive in the Western Conference play-in race. Sitting 3.5 games back of the 10th seed with only four games left, Portland essentially needs to win out and get a lot of help. Their most recent outing, a 118-113 road loss to Chicago, highlighted both their resilience and their injury woes.
Despite missing several key starters, including Anfernee Simons, Jerami Grant, Deandre Ayton, and Scoot Henderson, Portland stayed competitive. Deni Avdija exploded for 37 points and 11 boards, while Dalano Banton chipped in 21 points. Donovan Clingan was dominant on the glass with 18 rebounds, seven of which were offensive, fueling 20 second-chance points. The Blazers also committed a season-low five turnovers, keeping themselves in the game despite poor shooting.
With limited availability from their top players, Portland’s depth continues to step up, but they’ve lost five of their last seven games and are running out of time. The Trail Blazers must win out and hope for a total collapse by Sacramento, who also owns the tiebreaker over them.
San Antonio Spurs Outlook
The Spurs (32-45) enter this road game after a gut-wrenching 114-113 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. San Antonio made a furious late push, using a 14-2 run in the final minutes to nearly pull off a comeback, but Harrison Barnes’ buzzer-beating layup rimmed out. The loss was the Spurs’ sixth in their last seven games.
Devin Vassell paced San Antonio with 24 points, while Barnes had 23. Stephon Castle nearly notched a triple-double with 22 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds. The Spurs erased a 23-point deficit to give themselves a chance late, showing the same grit and fight they’ve played with all season — even when the playoffs have seemed out of reach.
San Antonio trails Sacramento by five games with five left, and while the math is still working in their favor, the reality is their fate is just about sealed.
Betting Prediction & Best Bets
Portland may be short-handed, but they’re still fighting and have shown a lot of heart at home. Meanwhile, the Spurs have had their number all year, winning all three previous meetings. However, with Portland playing with desperation and the game being at home, this could be where the season series flips.
Expect Portland to lean on Avdija and Clingan again with hopes of finally solving the Spurs puzzle.
Prediction:
Portland 114, San Antonio 107
Pick: Trail Blazers -4.5
Lean: Under 228.0 – Both teams could struggle to reach efficiency with their rosters depleted.
