Dallas Wings vs. Seattle Storm – Western Conference Showdown
Spread: Seattle Storm (-3.5) | Total: 166.0
Both the Dallas Wings and Seattle Storm are looking for redemption after getting steamrolled in their season openers. These two squads are still trying to shake off the cobwebs and get comfortable with new-look rosters, which clearly showed in their recent lopsided defeats. Monday’s matchup in Arlington, Texas, serves as an opportunity for both to find their footing.
Dallas Wings
The Wings (0-1) are coming off a rough 99-84 loss at home to the Minnesota Lynx. That game was supposed to be a grand debut for rookie sensation Paige Bueckers, the first overall pick in last month’s WNBA Draft. Although Bueckers put up a respectable 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds in her professional debut, it was far from the fairytale start she or Dallas fans had hoped for.
Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with 16 points, while DiJonai Carrington, a recent addition from Connecticut, chipped in with 15 points. Despite their efforts, Dallas got steamrolled in the third quarter, where Minnesota outscored them by 15 points and extended their lead to as much as 21.
New head coach Chris Koclanes was quick to point out the growing pains of a newly assembled roster, with only three players from last year’s team returning. “It’s a learning process,” Koclanes said. “We’re not going to be perfect early. We’re going to learn and get better from it.”
Seattle Storm
The Storm (0-1) were flat-out overwhelmed in their opener, dropping an 81-59 decision to the Phoenix Mercury. Skylar Diggins tried to carry the team with 21 points, while Nneka Ogwumike contributed 12 points. Despite their best efforts, Seattle never held a lead and shot just 33.3% from the field a painful indicator of just how much the team struggled to find rhythm.
Seattle’s three-point shooting was particularly brutal, going just 3-for-17 from beyond the arc (17.6%). They found themselves in a massive hole, trailing by as much as 27 points before the final buzzer mercifully ended the drubbing. “We’re not going to be married to this first game,” Diggins commented. “We have 48 hours to get back on the court and go for a different outcome.”
Expert Prediction
Both teams are still finding their chemistry, but Seattle’s offensive struggles are concerning, especially from long range. Dallas showed more firepower even in a loss, and the home-court edge could be the difference-maker here. Look for the Wings to secure their first win of the season in a competitive contest.
