Toronto Blue Jays: Canada’s Favorite Villains Return

Toronto Blue Jays arrive in the Bronx carrying last season’s emotional baggage and apparently enough confidence to annoy Yankees fans all over again.

Toronto spent last year bullying New York head-to-head, stealing the division tiebreaker and then dancing on the Yankees’ playoff grave while manager John Schneider basically remixed “New York, New York” into a trolling anthem. Yankees fans definitely handled that maturely and calmly. Definitely.

This season has been uglier for Toronto, though. The Blue Jays have spent most of the year hovering below .500 while desperately trying to convince everyone they are still contenders. Still, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is heating up again after batting .358 since late April, and Daulton Varsho has quietly become one of the few hitters consistently ruining opposing pitching plans.

Toronto hands the ball to veteran lefty Patrick Corbin, which feels slightly terrifying considering he now has to pitch inside Yankee Stadium against Aaron Judge and several baseballs traveling directly into orbit.

To Corbin’s credit, he has somehow managed decent career numbers against New York. Whether that survives Monday night is another conversation entirely.

New York Yankees: Bronx Baseball Therapy Session

New York Yankees return home after a brutal road trip where they lost walk-off games so frequently it started feeling like a weekly tradition.

The Yankees dropped seven of nine against Milwaukee, Baltimore, and the Mets while repeatedly finding creative new ways to emotionally damage their own fanbase. One game even ended with Max Schuemann and Anthony Volpe colliding like two shopping carts inside a grocery store aisle.

At least Aaron Judge continues doing Aaron Judge things. The Yankees captain remains the offensive centerpiece while New York desperately searches for consistent clutch hitting. The team went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position Sunday, which is roughly the baseball equivalent of setting money on fire.

The good news is left-hander Ryan Weathers looked outstanding in his return from illness. Weathers carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning during his last outing and appears fully capable of quieting Toronto’s offense if he locates early.

New York also historically responds well after ugly road trips, especially at Yankee Stadium where the offense tends to wake up quickly.

LVSB Final Score Prediction

Toronto usually plays New York aggressively, but the Yankees feel overdue for a bounce-back performance after last week’s disaster tour.

Judge should get opportunities against Corbin early, while the Yankees lineup finally benefits from returning home after several frustrating late-game collapses.

Expect offense, drama, angry fans, and probably at least one overreaction before the fifth inning.

Final Score: Yankees 7, Blue Jays 4
Lean: NY Yankees -1.5 (+105)

Over 9.0 (-105)
