Game Preview
Max Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, will kick off his 2024 season on Sunday afternoon as the Texas Rangers aim for their first three-game series sweep of the year against the Kansas City Royals in Arlington, Texas.
This marks Scherzer’s 17th season in Major League Baseball. Last season, following a mid-season trade from the New York Mets to the Rangers, he played a pivotal role in leading the team to its first-ever World Series championship. Scherzer posted a 4-2 record with a 3.20 ERA in eight regular-season starts for the Rangers before his season was cut short due to a teres major strain in mid-September. Despite the injury setbacks, he returned to pitch three postseason games, including Game 3 of the World Series, before being sidelined again with back issues.
