Game Preview

The Milwaukee Brewers aim to continue their home-field dominance as they host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series, with right-hander Colin Rea on the mound.

The Pirates have yet to announce their starting pitcher to face Rea (8-2, 3.34 ERA).

Pittsburgh is coming off an 8-2 victory over the New York Mets on Monday, led by Mitch Keller’s eight strong innings after not being selected for the All-Star Game. Oneil Cruz hit a two-run homer, and Joshua Palacios added a solo shot.

Milwaukee, idle on Monday, defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-2 on Sunday to wrap up a 3-4 road trip. Christian Yelich and Eric Haase each hit a two-run homer, and Blake Perkins added a solo shot.

The Brewers are 22-6 in their last 28 home games after a 5-7 start and have won their last nine home series.

Rea, one of the Brewers’ most reliable starters, is coming off his best performance of the season, throwing seven scoreless innings in a 3-0 win at Colorado on Wednesday.

"You might change your strategy, you might change your emphasis, but you’ve still got to go compete pitch to pitch and figure out a way," Brewers manager Pat Murphy said after Rea’s last start. "You just can’t let it get in your head. Colin Rea didn’t, that’s for sure. And that tells you everything you need to know about that young man."

Rea is 5-0 with a 2.56 ERA in his last eight outings, including six starts.

He is 2-2 with a 5.56 ERA in five career games (four starts) against Pittsburgh. Rea took the loss in his only start against the Pirates this season on May 13, allowing three runs over six innings.
