Game Preview

The Los Angeles Dodgers are entering a four-game series against the San Francisco Giants with a wave of momentum following a series of dramatic victories and a high-scoring game.

Shohei Ohtani highlighted Sunday’s action with a massive 473-foot home run as the Dodgers capped a three-game sweep over the Boston Red Sox with a 9-6 win. This victory followed a challenging stretch where the Dodgers went 1-6 prior to the All-Star break.

"Everyone was kind of semi-impressed," Ohtani remarked via an interpreter about his impressive homer.

Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez also homered in Sunday’s game, maintaining their season-long consistency at the plate. Additionally, the Dodgers saw home runs from Austin Barnes, Gavin Lux, and Jason Heyward, enhancing their offensive firepower. Barnes celebrated his first homer of the season, Lux showed signs of a turnaround after a challenging first half, and Heyward returned from the injured list with a bang.

"It makes pitching a lot easier when you score like that," said Barnes. "With six home runs in a game, you better win that game."

Despite the victory, the game raised some concerns for Los Angeles. Closer Evan Phillips struggled in the ninth, allowing Boston to bring the tying run to the plate before being pulled. Additionally, shortstop Miguel Rojas exited early due to a forearm strain.

Looking ahead to Monday, the Dodgers are set to give right-hander River Ryan his major league debut. Ryan, who has posted a 2.22 ERA across eight minor league starts this year, is expected to help stabilize the rotation ahead of Tyler Glasnow’s return from the injured list on Wednesday and Clayton Kershaw’s anticipated season debut on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Giants are coming off a weekend series where they dropped two of three games to the Colorado Rockies but managed to avoid a sweep with a 3-2 win on Sunday, powered by Jorge Soler’s 478-foot homer and Tyler Fitzgerald’s 434-foot shot.
