Game Preview

Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has started his Vezina Trophy defense in impressive form, winning his first four games with a 1.25 goals-against average and a .952 save percentage. After resting in Sunday’s 6-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hellebuyck is set to return to the net when the Jets face the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

Backup goalie Eric Comrie filled in on Sunday, joking about the long gaps between his starts, but the Jets rallied from a 2-0 deficit to stay unbeaten. Jets coach Scott Arniel credited his team’s resilience, noting their stronger play in the third period.

The Jets’ defensive-minded approach has been key, as forward Mason Appleton emphasized, preferring low-scoring games that showcase their goal suppression skills. With a 5-0-0 start, they are only the fifth Canadian team in 30 years to achieve this.

Meanwhile, the Blues are expected to start Jordan Binnington in goal, as they close out a four-game homestand. St. Louis has won their last two games, despite limited production from top center Robert Thomas, who has struggled offensively. Coach Drew Bannister remains confident Thomas will regain his form, focusing on his defensive play to create more offensive opportunities.

In the last two games, the Blues also shuffled their defensive pairings due to Nick Leddy’s injury, with Ryan Suter moving up to the top pairing alongside Colton Parayko.
