Game Preview

Edmonton Favored at -198 | Total Set at 6.5 Goals

A marquee Western Conference battle is set for Friday night as the Edmonton Oilers look to extend their winning ways against the surging Colorado Avalanche. With both teams boasting elite offensive firepower, expect a high-scoring affair featuring two of the NHL’s top point producers.

Colorado Avalanche Outlook

Avalanche Riding Momentum After Strong Recent Play

The Avalanche (4-1 in their last five games) come into this matchup riding a wave of offensive production. Martin Necas has been a revelation since joining the team, notching eight points (three goals, five assists) in just seven games since being acquired in a blockbuster three-team trade.

Necas played a pivotal role in Colorado’s 4-2 win over Calgary on Thursday, delivering two goals and an assist, while Nathan MacKinnon racked up three assists to extend his season total to 83 points, keeping him atop the league’s scoring race.

Meanwhile, Cale Makar continues to set records, becoming the first defenseman since Brian Leetch (1993-94) to record three 20-goal seasons before turning 27.

Despite trailing after the first period against Calgary, Colorado’s resilience showed once again, as they dominated the final two frames.

“We knew it wasn’t good enough in the first period, and we brought more energy and urgency in the final two,” said defenseman Sam Malinski.

Betting Insight: The Avalanche have the firepower to keep pace, but playing on back-to-back nights against a well-rested Oilers squad could be a challenge.

Edmonton Oilers Outlook

Oilers Aiming for Third Straight OT Thriller

Edmonton (second in the Pacific Division) is coming off back-to-back overtime wins, most recently surviving a 3-2 thriller against St. Louis and a 4-3 victory over Chicago.

Zach Hyman played the hero against the Blackhawks, scoring the power-play winner just 1:36 into OT.

The Oilers boast an offense loaded with talent, led by Leon Draisaitl (81 points, league-leading 38 goals) and Connor McDavid, who set an NHL record with his 42nd career overtime point, surpassing Alex Ovechkin and Patrick Kane.

Edmonton’s goaltending has been surprisingly strong, with Calvin Pickard going 10-1-0 in his last 11 starts. His stability in the crease gives the Oilers a much-needed defensive boost as they continue their push for playoff positioning.

Another emerging force has been Jeff Skinner, who has three goals and an assist over his last five games. He has flourished on the second line alongside Draisaitl and Vasily Podkolzin.

“He’s an easy guy to play with,” Skinner said of Draisaitl. “He wins a lot of battles and makes a lot of great plays.”

Betting Insight: The Oilers have owned this matchup, winning both meetings this season, including a 4-1 win on Nov. 30 and a 4-3 comeback victory on Jan. 16. With a well-rested lineup, they hold a strong edge.

Prediction & Best Bets

Moneyline Pick: Edmonton (-198) – The Oilers are well-rested, at home, and have already proven they can handle Colorado this season.

Puck Line: Oilers -1.5 (+130) – Colorado is on the second night of a back-to-back, making it a tough spot against an explosive Edmonton offense.

Total Goals: Over 6.5 – With MacKinnon, Draisaitl, and McDavid on the ice, expect fireworks in a fast-paced, high-scoring game.

Final Score Prediction: Edmonton 5, Colorado 3 – The Oilers take advantage of a fatigued Avalanche squad and secure another statement win before the All-Star break.
