MLB Betting Preview & Predictions: Giants vs Yankees
Moneyline: NY Yankees -140 | Total: 8.0
The New York Yankees are slight favorites heading into Saturday’s matchup at Yankee Stadium, listed at -140 on the moneyline with a total set at 8.0. But momentum is on the side of the visiting San Francisco Giants, who have kicked off their 2025 campaign red hot.
Giants Outlook
At 10-3, San Francisco is off to its best start in over two decades. Manager Bob Melvin made a savvy pregame lineup shuffle Friday, promoting Mike Yastrzemski to the leadoff spot while dropping LaMonte Wade Jr. down the order — and the payoff was immediate. Yastrzemski ripped a leadoff double and is now hitting .343 on the season, while Wade snapped out of a slump with a two-run double, helping the Giants explode for five first-inning runs.
Jung Hoo Lee added a three-run homer in the same frame, and the Giants cruised to a rain-shortened 9-1 win — their fourth straight. With Jordan Hicks (1-0, 2.38 ERA) on the hill, San Francisco has a solid shot to keep rolling. Hicks looked sharp in his first two starts, limiting damage while showing command. He’s 0-1 lifetime against the Yankees but has handled lineups like this one before.
Yankees Outlook
On the flip side, New York has cooled off significantly after a strong start. The Yankees have lost four of their last five and were limited to just two hits Friday. Scoring has been a problem — just 11 runs in their last five contests — and they’ve hit only one homer in that span after launching 25 bombs in their first eight games.
The starting rotation is another concern. Yankees starters have the worst ERA in the majors (5.46), and Marcus Stroman’s early exit on Friday (due to a knee issue) only worsens the situation. With rookie Will Warren (0-0, 6.00 ERA) getting the ball Saturday, New York needs better than his last outing when he allowed four earned runs over four innings.
Warren has yet to face San Francisco, but he’ll need a strong outing to stop the bleeding for a team that suddenly looks vulnerable at home.
Prediction & Best Bets
This game feels like a spot where the Giants continue their hot streak and take advantage of a struggling Yankees squad. San Francisco has momentum, lineup depth, and better starting pitching right now.
Score Prediction: Giants 6, Yankees 4
Best Bet: Giants moneyline (+120)
Total Lean: Over 8.0 (-110) – Both teams have shown power potential, and with Warren’s inconsistency, runs should come early.
Prop Angle: Back Mike Yastrzemski to record a hit and Jordan Hicks to go 5+ innings pitched if offered.
