New York Mets – In Full Command of the Series
The Mets come into Saturday’s contest riding high as -150 favorites and looking to extend their dominance over St. Louis. They’ve now won nine straight against the Cardinals dating back to last season, and after Friday’s 9-3 blowout win, confidence is soaring.
Tylor Megill gets the nod for New York and has quietly been one of the more effective arms in the rotation with a 1.74 ERA across five starts. He’s coming off a solid performance against Washington where he struck out nine and allowed only three hits over 6.1 innings. Though his career ERA against St. Louis is inflated (7.00), current form suggests he’s more than capable of flipping that narrative.
The Mets’ bats are scorching hot Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Alvarez, and Juan Soto are all dialed in. Nimmo reached base five times on Friday, and Soto continues to torch baseballs with elite exit velocity. This offense is firing on all cylinders, making New York a strong moneyline play.
St. Louis Cardinals – Pitching Concerns, Few Answers
The Cardinals are in a tough spot heading into Game 2 of the series. Erick Fedde (1-3, 4.68 ERA) is coming off a brutal outing against Milwaukee, where he surrendered seven runs and 10 hits. His track record against the Mets is downright concerning just one win in 17 career appearances with a bloated 6.51 ERA. Last year alone, he was lit up to the tune of an 11.05 ERA across four starts against New York.
While Masyn Winn is heating up at the plate and has been a bright spot with three multi-hit games in his last four, St. Louis hasn’t been able to string together enough offense to keep pace with the Mets’ firepower. Unless Fedde dramatically turns things around, it’s tough to see the Cardinals matching New York run for run.
Betting Prediction
With the way New York is swinging the bats and considering the severe edge in starting pitching, this matchup heavily favors the Mets. Their offense is rolling, and Megill has been rock-solid. Fedde’s history versus New York is a major red flag.
Best Bet: Mets Moneyline (-150)
Lean: Over 8.5 – The Mets might do most of the lifting themselves if Fedde struggles early again. Expect another strong showing from New York as they go for 10 straight over St. Louis.
Score Prediction: Mets 6, Cardinals 3
