New York Yankees Overview
The New York Yankees head into Seattle riding a wave of momentum, thanks largely to the superhuman efforts of Aaron Judge. Judge has been putting up ridiculous numbers, almost as if he’s trying to channel the spirit of Ted Williams. On Sunday, he racked up three hits, including a two-run single that sparked a five-run inning against the Athletics. This bumped his batting average to an absurd .409, a number we haven’t seen over a full season since Williams himself back in 1941.
Judge’s bat has been nuclear lately. He blasted two homers the day before to claim the MLB lead with 14 dingers, and he currently tops the league with 39 RBIs. His play has helped the Yankees win four of their last five games, solidifying their spot atop the AL East. Teammate Oswald Peraza even mentioned, “You look at his numbers over the years, he’s doing a lot of things right,” which is a bit of an understatement.
Clarke Schmidt (0-1, 4.79 ERA) gets the call for the Yankees in the series opener. Schmidt has been decent but hasn’t snagged a win yet. Interestingly, he’s been solid against Seattle in his career, holding a 1.73 ERA across three meetings. If Judge and the Yankees’ bats keep delivering, Schmidt should have plenty of support to notch that elusive first win.
Seattle Mariners Overview
The Seattle Mariners come into this matchup in a bit of a slump after getting swept by the Toronto Blue Jays. Sunday’s 9-1 loss marked the first time they’ve been blanked in a three-game series since early April. Manager Dan Wilson wasn’t exactly thrilled but kept things optimistic, saying, “It’s one of those series that you kind of want to turn the page and move on.”
The Mariners’ bats were largely silent, managing just four hits on Sunday. J.P. Crawford did his part with two hits, while Dylan Moore added a solo home run. However, the rest of the lineup fell flat, leaving Seattle searching for answers heading into Monday’s game.
On the mound, Emerson Hancock (1-1, 5.70 ERA) will get the nod. Hancock hasn’t faced the Yankees before, and his recent outings have been shaky, allowing plenty of contact and struggling with command. If the Mariners are going to compete, they’ll need Hancock to be sharper than he’s shown so far.
Player Prop Picks:
Aaron Judge – Over 1.5 Total Bases – Aaron Judge is red-hot, hitting .409 with 14 homers. Against Hancock’s 5.70 ERA, expect him to exceed 1.5 total bases.
Clarke Schmidt – Over 5.5 Strikeouts – Clarke Schmidt faces a strikeout-prone Mariners lineup, holding a 1.73 ERA against them. Over 5.5 strikeouts is solid value.
Expert Prediction and Final Score
New York comes into this game swinging hot bats and riding the wave of Aaron Judge’s incredible form. Meanwhile, Seattle is struggling to generate offense and couldn’t find much rhythm against Toronto. Look for the Yankees to continue their hot streak in Seattle and for Judge to keep raking.
