Mariners vs. Astros – Betting Preview & Prediction

Moneyline: Seattle -111 | Total: 7.5

Seattle Mariners Betting Outlook

The Mariners came out swinging literally on Friday night, hammering three first-pitch home runs en route to a 5-3 victory over the Astros. Cal Raleigh’s game-breaking two-run blast off the right-field foul pole in the seventh inning was his 17th of the year and emblematic of Seattle’s aggressive offensive strategy. Seattle hitters aren’t waiting around Leody Taveras and Miles Mastrobuoni also went deep on first pitches, showing this lineup is hunting early counts. With Dan Wilson’s squad clearly focused on ambushing pitchers early, bettors might expect more of the same fireworks in Game 3.

Bryan Woo (5-1, 2.65 ERA) will take the mound for the Mariners and has been a model of consistency. He’s gone at least six innings in all nine starts and has held opponents to one or fewer earned runs in three of four June outings. Against Houston, Woo has been solid owning a 1-0 record and a 2.31 ERA in two career starts. Expect Woo to control the pace and offer Seattle a great shot to take the lead in the series.

Houston Astros Betting Outlook

Houston might want to rethink its pitch sequencing, especially with first-pitch sliders turning into souvenirs. Bryan Abreu wore the brunt of Raleigh’s blast, while starter Ryan Gusto was also tagged twice. Even in a loss, Framber Valdez gives the Astros hope. He’s been on a heater, delivering three straight quality starts and compiling a 3.33 ERA in 17 career outings against Seattle. In his last start against them, Valdez tossed six scoreless innings in an eventual 12-inning win.

Valdez (3-4, 3.57 ERA) also has a 22-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his last three starts. He’s a lefty who thrives on contact and command, two qualities Houston desperately needs to calm down the Mariners’ early-count aggression.

Prediction:

With Woo’s stability and Seattle’s red-hot first-pitch hitting approach, the Mariners have a slight edge here. Valdez will keep Houston competitive, but Seattle’s bats might just be too hot.

Final Score Prediction: Mariners 4, Astros 3
Lean: Seattle ML (-111)
Total:
Under 7.5 (-120) – In a tight duel between two strong starters
