New York Mets Preview
The Mets have gone from first-place hopefuls to panic mode, dropping eight of their last nine. Sunday’s 7-1 drubbing by the Phillies wasn’t just another loss, it was a full-on offensive implosion. They’ve hit just .218 during this cold stretch and have been outscored 62-28 in that span.
Hoping to spark something, the Mets optioned struggling catcher Francisco Alvarez to Triple-A. It’s a sign of how far things have unraveled.
Paul Blackburn gets the nod and will try to keep the Braves in check after a rough 3.2-inning outing against them last week. His history vs. Atlanta isn’t awful (2.63 ERA in 13.2 innings), but he’ll need a bounce-back in a big way to avoid a fourth straight series loss for New York.
