Marlins at Giants: Who Brings the Bigger Swing and Smaller ERA?
Moneyline: San Francisco (-189)
Total: 7.5
Miami Marlins: Florida Men on a Mission
Yes, believe it or not, the Marlins are on a winning streak, three whole games! That’s basically a parade in Miami terms. With a 33-45 record, they’re still buried in the NL East, but at least they’ve temporarily stopped the bleeding.
Janson Junk is on the bump and no, his last name isn’t a cruel nickname, it’s his actual name. Thankfully, his pitching hasn’t lived up to it: a sparkly 2.60 ERA and a WHIP that says, “I don’t walk anyone unless they really deserve it.” Junk might be the most effective Miami-based Janson since the dolphin from Flipper.
Xavier Edwards has actually been slapping the ball around like he’s auditioning for a leadoff spot in a playoff lineup, 12 hits in his last 10 games. But unless he can clone himself seven times, the Marlins might still be in deep sushi against the Giants’ arms.
San Francisco Giants: The Bay Boppers Are Back?
The Giants have dropped seven of their last ten, but somehow still find themselves in solid position in the wild NL West. Their offense has been a little sleepy lately, ranking 10th in the league in home runs, but that’s only because the fog is interfering with launch angles.
Heliot Ramos has been carrying the offense like it’s a backpack full of bricks, 13 homers and counting. Meanwhile, Casey Schmitt is on a mini heater, and by “mini” we mean he has more hits than friends who stayed in town after college.
Hayden Birdsong toes the rubber today, and no, he’s not a medieval bard, he’s just a rookie with some bite. With a 3.25 ERA and a knack for punching tickets, he’s the Giants’ best hope to shut down the Marlins’ sudden awakening.
Prediction: Giants Get Their Groove Back
Miami’s little win streak hits a foggy wall at Oracle Park. Birdsong does just enough, and the Giants’ bats finally remember what they’re paid to do.
Final Score Prediction: Giants 5, Marlins 2
Bets Bet: San Francisco RL -1.5 (+117)
Total: Under 7.5 (-108)
Hope you like strikeouts and soft grounders, because that’s the Thursday matinee special.
