Indiana Fever Breakdown
The Caitlin Clark show rolls into Boston as the Indiana Fever are looking to stack wins and momentum against a struggling Connecticut Sun squad. The game’s being played at TD Garden, and no, it’s not the Celtics, it’s Clark’s star power that’s selling tickets in Beantown.
Clark is still shaking off the rust from her recent groin injury, averaging a modest 12 points on an inefficient 31.7% from the floor since her return. She went 4-of-12 last game, but that didn’t stop Indiana from blowing out Dallas 102-83 at home. The rookie phenom made up for the cold shooting night by dishing out a season-high 13 assists and grabbing five steals, matching her career best.
Natasha Howard stepped up big-time, finishing with 18 points on nearly perfect 8-for-9 shooting. The Fever have now won four of their last six, and they’re playing like a team looking to rise in the standings and steamroll weaker opponents.
Connecticut Sun Breakdown
The Sun have been stuck in the shadows for most of the season. Losers in 12 of their last 13 games, this team has struggled to stop the bleeding. Sunday’s 92-88 loss to the Sparks was another reminder that while Connecticut can score, their defense can’t stop a thing.
Rookie Saniya Rivers was electric, dropping a career-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Bria Hartley chimed in with a season-best 25 points as well. But even those performances weren’t enough to overcome another porous defensive effort. “It’s great we scored 88,” Rivers said. “But it doesn’t help if we give up 90+.”
Hartley, a UConn product, will be pumped to return to Boston to play in front of familiar fans, but excitement alone won’t fix this team’s defensive woes.
Connecticut already took a loss to Indiana earlier this year, falling 88-71 in a game where Clark and Tina Charles each dropped 20. If the Sun haven’t solved their issues by now, they’re in for another long night.
WNBA Game Prediction:
Indiana is starting to look like a playoff-bound team, while Connecticut looks like they’re headed for the lottery. The Fever’s offense is clicking, and even when Clark isn’t filling it up, she’s facilitating at an elite level. Expect Indiana to take care of business again, especially in front of a national crowd eager to see a show.
