Chicago Cubs Betting Outlook
Craig Counsell swore the offense would wake up, and Saturday night, the Cubs finally roared. After being shut down for six runs or fewer in nine straight games, Chicago erupted for a 9-1 pounding of the Cardinals.
Michael Busch has been St. Louis’ personal nightmare, 15-for-34 with six bombs, 12 runs, and 11 RBIs this season against them. Add in Matt Shaw, Dansby Swanson, Carson Kelly, and Kyle Tucker all chipping in Saturday, and suddenly, the Cubs lineup looks dangerous again.
Lefty Shota Imanaga (8-4, 3.12 ERA) gets the nod Sunday, looking to build on his sharp outing against Cincinnati (6.1 IP, 1 ER, 0 BB). He’s been money against St. Louis, 2-0 with a 2.41 ERA in three career starts.
Prop Pick: Michael Busch – Over 1.5 Total Bases (his track record against STL pitching is too good to ignore).
St. Louis Cardinals Betting Outlook
The Cardinals had no answer for Chicago’s bats Saturday, and now they’re leaning on Sonny Gray (10-5, 4.21 ERA) to stop the bleeding. Gray was lights out in L.A. on Monday, seven innings, one hit, one run, his best start since June.
His sweeper was working early and often, even fooling Shohei Ohtani on the first batter of the game. If he can replicate that command, the Cardinals have a fighting chance.
Offensively, St. Louis needs more from its lineup. Alec Burleson’s only RBI was a highlight, but Saturday night lacked production beyond him.
Prop Pick: Willson Contreras – To Record an RBI (prime chance to deliver if Gray keeps them in the game late).
Prediction & Betting Angle
With momentum finally back in their bats and Imanaga’s dominance vs STL, Chicago’s -125 moneyline looks justified. St. Louis will be competitive if Gray is in form, but with Donovan’s status uncertain and Imanaga’s track record, the underdog spot is risky.
Final Score Prediction: Cubs 4, Cardinals 3
Lean: Chi. Cubs (-125)
